Cherub Choir Sings at the Christmas Tableau

On Sunday, December 14, at 5:00pm the Cherub Choir (including children in the current 3’s, 4’s and Kindergarten classes) will be leading the congregation in worship with the song “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy” at the Christmas Tableau. These children have been learning and practicing this song for the past four weeks during Sunday school, and they are very excited to be a part of this service!

The virgin Mary had a baby boy,
The virgin Mary had a baby boy.
The virgin Mary had a baby boy,
And they said that his name was (clap) Jesus.

The angels sang-a when the baby was born,
The angels sang-a when the baby was born.
The angels sang-a when the baby was born,
And they said that his name was (clap) Jesus.

The shepherds see where the baby was born,
The shepherds see where the baby was born.
The shepherds see where the baby was born,
And they said that his name was (clap) Jesus.

Cherub Choir Sings Oct. 19

On Sunday, October 19, the Cherub Choir (including children in the current 3’s, 4’s and Kindergarten classes) will be leading the congregation in worship through song at the 11:00 service. The children will practice as usual during the Sunday school hour as well as walk together from their classrooms following the 9:30 service to rehearse in the sanctuary. The Cherub Choir will come up to the front to sing just prior to the Children’s Chapel part of the service. We hope you can join us on this special day!

He's Got the Whole World In His Hands (Click for Music)
He's got the whole world in his hands.
He's got the whole world in his hands.
He's got the whole world in his hands.
He's got the whole world in his hands.

He's got the wind and the rain in his hands...

He's got the hills and the plains in his hands...

He's got the little bitty baby in his hands...

He's got everybody here in his hands...

Rally Day Kickoff!

On Sunday, September 7, we will begin a new year singing, dancing, playing instruments, and being silly together as Sunday School starts back up again for Rally Day!

Elizabeth Boone is looking forward to welcoming new faces and having fun with old friends as she brings music to the two, three, four and five year old classes during the Sunday School hour each week. There will be new "Musicians of the Month", opportunities to lead worship throughout the year, and many fun things to do together!

Check out the bulletin board outside of the Fellowship Hall and girls' bathroom for more information and updates!

Mark your calendars for October 19, when the three, four and five year olds sing for the first time in worship this year at the 11:00 service as the Cherub Choir.

Cherub Choir Sings June 15

On Sunday, June 15, the Cherub Choir (including children in the current 3’s, 4’s and Kindergarten classes) will be singing “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” at the 11:00 service. Several of the previous “Musicians of the Month” will be accompanying the children as they lead the congregation in worship through song. The children will meet prior to the service at 10:45 to rehearse.

"I've Got Peace Like a River"
I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river,
I've got peace like a river in my soul.
I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river,

I've got peace like a river in my soul.

I've got love like an ocean, I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean in my soul.
I've got love like an ocean, I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean in my soul.

I've got joy like a fountain, I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain in my soul.
I've got joy like a fountain, I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain in my soul.

I've got peace, love and joy like a river, I've got peace,
love and joy like a river, I've got peace, love and joy like a river in my soul.
I've got peace, love and joy like a river, I've got peace, love and joy like a river, I've got peace, love and joy like a river in my soul.

Year in Review

What an exciting year for the young children at SMPC! Each Sunday, toddlers through kindergarteners had an opportunity to participate in developmentally appropriate musical activities such as singing, chanting, moving, and instrument playing during a portion of the Sunday school hour. Throughout the year, the children also had a chance to share their music with the congregation during worship three times, to participate in two different “Music Workshops” with their families, and to meet several of the wonderfully talented members of our church through the “Musicians of the Month” program. A huge “thank you” goes out to the following musicians who so graciously shared their talent and love of music with the young children of SMPC: Jeremy Boone (guitar); Seth Brown (bass); Blythe Kinsey (trumpet/piano); John Kan (piano); Becky Trella (recorder); Ann Marie Pichirallo (clarinet); Scott Rawls (saxophone); Natalie Rawls (French horn).

Cherub Choir Sings on Palm Sunday

On Sunday, March 16, at 5:00pm, there will be a special service for families to celebrate Palm Sunday and the Easter season. The Cherub Choir, ages 3 through kindergarten, will be helping to lead the congregation by singing "Little Grey Donkey" during this worship service. I encourage the children to practice this song, which we have been learning during Sunday school, using the lyrics and audio link below:

Little Grey Donkey (Audio Link)
By Natalie Sleeth

Little grey donkey, little grey donkey, little grey donkey, ho.
Do you know just who it is you carry on your back?
‘Tis no ordinary load, no mean or common pack.
You are blessed of all beasts to carry into town
Christ the Lord of Gallilee, He wears no earthly crown.

Little grey donkey, little grey donkey, little grey donkey, ho.
Once you were a simple beast of poor and lowly state.
Christ Himself hath chosen you and honoured is you fate.
Though your path with palms is spread, make haste along the way;
You were destined here to ride on this triumphal day.

Little grey donkey, little grey donkey, little grey donkey, ho.
Yonder is a grassy hill; it’s known as Calvary.
Up against the cloudless sky a barren cross you see.
Little grey donkey, Little grey mare, don’t hide you head in shame.
For you bear the Lamb of God, and Jesus is His name.
For you bear the Lamb of God, and Jesus is His name.

Music Workshop

On Saturday, March 1, the Music Ministry hosted our second "Music Workshop"! Twenty-eight children, from as young as 6 months to kindergarteners, and their families enjoyed singing, dancing, playing instruments, and making music together! Stay “tuned” for more Music Workshops in the near future!
